Hello everyone,
I am after a bit of help. I have a photography business that is quite new. I am now looking to market it and I am after a logo for it. The logo would be used from business cards to a website and all in between.

My business is called Catch The Moment Photography.

1.My website is : www.catchthemomentphotography.com.au
2. website is a just one that I am using until I can afford a more professional looking one as I am trying to keep my overheads low.
3.I don't really have any favourite logos or designs in mind.
4.I would be needing the resolution sizes to vary as I would eventually be wanting to use them for business cards, shirts, brochures, website.
5.I don't have any images or clipart
6. Colour – open – just not pink or purple or girlie colours – I have a male photographer help me out occasionally and he would feel odd handing out pink business cards and the like!

I am based in Patterson Lakes, Melbourne, Australia and cater for weddings, portraits, special occasion, sporting and pets.

I am looking for something sleek and professional.

I have been looking through the various posts and see that there are some incredibly talented people out there. Thankyou in advance!
regards
Liza-Jayne

If you happen to have a small cardboard box around your house you have a unique way to display photos or even decorate for the holidays. A square cardboard box, with a tuck-in lid, is all you need to get started with the simple but beautiful conversation piece. And, when you're finished with the easy project, you can simply change the look of the photo cube any time you want, in mere seconds!

The cube you use needs to have a lid and it's the perfect box if the lid is attached and will tuck into the box. Box tops that are split down the middle can be taped shut and used for the photo cube, too. If the box doesn't have a lid you can cut a piece of cardboard and tape it in place. A square cube is perfect but the photo cube can also be made from a rectangular box.

Start by purchasing a roll of magnetic sheeting. You'll find it at any craft store. You can also purchase the magnet by the sheet but you'll need to purchase two or three sheets, depending upon their sizes. Cut a piece of the sheeting to fit each side of the cube, including the top and the bottom. If you want, you can put something in the box to weight it, before starting the project.

After you've cut six pieces of magnetic sheeting, to fit the six sides of the cube, you'll then attach the various pictures you want to display to the magnetic squares. Magnetic sheeting has a peel-away adhesive backing which makes it easy to attach the photos. Simply peel the backing and position the photo on the magnet. Trim if necessary.

The first set of six pictures will actually be glued to the box. Glue one picture on each side as well as the top and bottom of the box. After the glue dries your cube is complete. To make it an interchangeable photo cube you'll now make additional magnetic pictures.

You can create particular themes for your cube or you can just cut family photos that you'll use to change the look of the cube at any time. If you want to create themes you'll simply make six new photos for each theme. Cut photos and images from magazines, cloth, posters, product boxes and other sources.

Since the first set of magnetic photos are glued to the box the next set will easily attach to the first set. The magnetic sheeting allows you to simply stick the next photo to it. Display family photos this week, a Halloween theme later, then a Christmas scene during that time of the year. There's no limit to the different themes you can make.

Take things you love, like dolphins or lighthouses, and create a beach theme. Use other pictures to create a theme of your growing child. Select six different photos, which show your child as he or she was growing up, then make a photo cube with that theme. It's easy to make themes for holidays, anniversaries, graduations, or vacations.

Don't continue sticking more and more pictures to the cube. Instead, keep the original photos glued to the cube, then add one new set over those, anytime you wish. The next time you want to change the theme just remove the old set and add the new.

Stick with one form of images for each set. For example, make all the photos in a particular set out of paper or out of cloth. Don't make some of them from product boxes, some from cloth and others from photos. Although you can use the various types to form a collection of sets, the cube doesn't look quite right if you mix them. You can have one set that's all made from fabric images, one set all cut from magazines, and so on.

Set the cube on a shelf, the mantle or a counter top. Display in a window or just set it on the coffee table. The cubes make great gifts and fabulous conversation pieces. They're easy to create and so easy to change – whenever you take the notion. It's an inexpensive way to show off your photos and holiday themes while investing very little money. Get the kids involved – it's a great project for them as well!

Justin Bieber, that powerful pop force who's hype is larger than he is, was spotted out side Miami International Airport last night. By the looks of it, Justin isn't just on a mission to rid the world of all “lonely girls”, he wants world peace too. Or perhaps, newcomer Justin has been getting paparazzi hand gesture tips from pop veteran Miley Cyrus. Oh, who are we kidding? This is just our lame excuse to post pictures of Justin. Blair Hill Photography services the Wasatch Valley areas locating between Provo to Logan Utah.

Blair Hill Photography began in the year 2000 when Blair first decided she wanted to use her camera for something other than fun. Though Blair had been taking photographs for a long time, and was very familiar with the SLR camera she owned, she was always just snapping photographs of family & friend adventures, music events, or other various events around the town. She had been published several times in her local newspaper and other various sources, but still never quite thought of the idea to go 'professional.'

When Blair decided that it was time to put her passion to work, she started to attend classes right away on her new favorite subject, so that she could learn as much as she could aside from what she already knew. She attended classes at her local community college, a local arts program, and MICA – Maryland Institute College of Art. She began developing her progressing in the field of musical/industrial photography, and developed a clientel very quickly.

To the downside of all the progress Blair had made with her work, in 2003 she moved 2000 miles across the county, which means her clients were not locals anymore. Discouraged, and looking for a refreshing moment in life, Blair took a break from her passion of photography until 2005. In 2005, Blair realized how much she missed doing what she loved most, taking pictures. She realized how much her focus of photography had changed though, and began to pursue portrait photography.

Since 2005, Blair has been an active portrait photographer in the greater Wasatch Valley in Utah. She has been complemented again and again on her wonderful work, with a repeat clientel that simply keeps growing and growing.

With astonishing photography, incomparable to any of the other local photographers here in Utah, yet still with the most amazingly affordable prices, Blair Hill Photography is completely unique, and perfect. Every day Blair is coming up with new ideas on how to make her work different, better. She is constantly attending trainings and schooling to further her educational background in photography, and to learn anything new she could possibly learn.

Her current creditinals include the following:

Anne Arundel Community College – 2001, Photography Certificate

Maryland Institute College of Art – 2002-2003 Photography Classes

Salt Lake Community College – 2006-current A.A. Photography Classes

In addition to her passion of photography, Blair has a B.S. In sociology from the University of Utah, and is currently working towards her masters in Gerontology. She hopes to one day mix her love for people and culture with her love and passion for photography.

PHOTO! Here is a picture of Jim Toth (CAA); are Jim Toth and Reese Witherspoon dating? Jim Toth’s pic with Reese Witherspoon heats up press today with another one of those classic … “cozy” … stories.

You could write these cozy stories in your sleep. They always include the source saying the same thing – something along the lines of — “they were dining”, “smiling the whole time”, “very cozy”, “totally getting into it”, for “full two hours”, “definitely having fun”.

And the source always seems to have more information about one of the two people. Which one is it this time?

Details on Jim Roth. Yes, exactly.

Writes PEOPLE: “But a friend of Toth’s says the evening was “a date,” though “nothing serious.” The handsome agent is known as a ladies’ man: “He’s enjoying the single life”.

Who cares.

And what’s the best that the source could come up with? “Reese reached around his neck and pulled him close for a hug”.

Pulled him close huh?

The story also reveals who picked up the tab, and the name of the restaurant, and it’s location, just ironically.

Mei Lan is Zoo Atlanta's firstborn giant panda and will be accompanied on the trip by Heather Roberts, left, a giant panda keeper at Zoo Atlanta. Before heading to China, the plane will make a stop in Washington, DC, where it will pick up Tai Shan, a 4-year-old male giant panda born at the National Zoo. why is it against the law to take pictures of girls with a cellphone? it's not like it's child porn or anything.

Posted by: lester | Feb 3, 2010 6:02:10 AM

Huh? Photos taken close up, no mention of up-skirt shots, etc. Sounds like he was shooting booty shots from behind, which isn't decent, but surely not against the law.

What about the BK woman with the cup in her sweaty cleavage-of-eternity? Did they have to get her permission?

I call creepy. (Perhaps. A nice tush and generous hips are eye candy to me.) But not illegal.

@LGL and lester

The reason he took pictures of these girls with their clothes on is due to the lack of sex education at his HS. How was he to know there was something underneath?

Posted by: Bill | Feb 3, 2010 7:04:56 AM

So, when he shoots someone, is that because they don't teach hunter safety classes?

Posted by: jj | Feb 3, 2010 7:04:59 AM

Couple of things –

If the girls were on public property, no consent needed.

Also, Lake Travis is not really Austin, it is one of these little conservate burbclaves that surrounds the city.

Posted by: johnjohn | Feb 3, 2010 8:01:58 AM

That's a lame excuse for being mildly pervy. But taking pictures of girls is legal as long as the photos were taken in a public place and the girls weren't unclothed.

Although we're used to seeing big predators attack smaller prey, nature features us animals that defy this convention.

From extremely venomous creatures like the blue-ringed octopus to ferocious beasts like the hyena to tiny killers like mosquitoes, these animals prove that they can take on much larger creatures, whether it's for defense or to get a feeding out of it.

Check out these relatively small animals that are a force to be reckoned with.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi may spread her legs for the camera, but she does not spread her legs for the camera: the crotch-flashing “Jersey Shore” star denies she’s the subject of any nude photos or videos being hawked to tabloids. “Like i said before about my supposed ’sex tape’…There are no nude pictures nor will there ever be,” she recently tweeted. “The tabloids just love Snook gossip.” That’s not stopping Radar from providing a steamy description of what they say they saw:

The stills and video leave nothing to the imagination, as she is wearing only a smile. In one photo she is in her bedroom, on her knees, with one hand on the ground and the other holding the rail of the bed frame. She is looking at the camera with her head tilted slightly. Her spot-it-anywhere fingernail polish is plainly visible. Another shot is too graphic to describe. And if it’s not Snooki in the photos then she has an identical twin!

As damning as the matching fingernail polish sounds, we wouldn’t be surprised if there were quite a few “identical twins” running around the bridge-and-tunnel crowd. With Snooki barely batting an eyelash at the rumors, it’s time for someone to put up or shut up.

Think if people would actually buy your photos and do people you know like them? Does anybody show interest in your photography? Ask them if they were shopping for photography online, if they would consider buying your photos.

Tip # 2: Sell Photos Online: What People Want

Selling photographs online won't work if you don't actually have photos that people want. Do some research and try to determine popular ideas of good photos that other people sell. So you really want to avoid when selling photos, capturing products or other kinds of trademarked items. Your picture will most likely get denied or the company will deny you rights to have their trademarked item in your photo. So when selling photos online you need to be careful of the things in your picture and think about items that will require acquired a signed release and try to avoid them if you can.

In order to sell your photos, you need to be able to market your work. It's hard to sell just about anything without some sort of skills in marketing, even if you don't always realize it. Get yourself recognized online by blogging about your photos and joining forums. You want to network and get to know people online. If you develop some sort of fan base or following, you will be able to become popular online and sell photographs in bulk and make lots of money. Blog about your website or portfolio that has the photographs you are selling. Blog a lot on social bookmarking sites because they are free and very easy to use. This will get you noticed online by users and will develop your following. You need to meet people on forums and develop connections with people. Show interest in other people's work and develop friends that can help you get more clicks or impressions on your websites. This is the best marketing tool because if you can get other people to talk about and market your site then you will be making a lot of money. So make sure your campaign is organized in case you blow up online and millions of people want your photos in less than a year. An older tool that still works is just emailing forward messages to all your friends and your Myspace or whatever to get recognized. You must be known before you sell photos online and make the big money. Get as many people to visit your online gallery and no one will if you don't constantly blog and email your link out. Remember that all of this marketing is free, so all you have to do is just do it! This is the best tool you have in getting recognized by online users. If you are getting a lot of impressions or views on gallery with no conversions or purchases, then you need to maybe change the content in your gallery or change the photos. Also try changing the descriptions of the photos or the format of the page and make it easier. Try to contain a descent amount of content on your page to show you are reputable and that you are professional. You want you gallery to be real organize and simple to use. Make it as professional as you can.

Tip #6: Sell Photos Online: Decide Where To Sell Photos Online

Do research on all the sites available to sell your photos online. There are all kinds of different ways and different kind of markets that are available for selling your photographs. Review the types of galleries and how they sell their products to get a feel for what the site wants. Also review their terms of use and and how you will get paid for your work. Just make sure it is a reputable site that isn't going to scam you out of your photographs. Just make sure you research and doing homework when choosing the site you are going to use to sell photos online. You want to make as much money as possible I assume.

There are two reasons to shoot black and white photography. One reason is because you think it looks old fashioned and it’s a cool effect. A better reason to shoot black and white photography is because of the lessons it can teach you. Black and White Photography teaches you about values. We’re not talking about ethical values but the value in a monotone sense where color is taken out of the picture and we can focus and value as a single element.

What is Value in Photography?

High value is white and low value is black, you can see below a visual representation of value scale.

Histograms break down the value of a photograph.
Once you understand value you can use it to create stark contrasts or to create soft, subtle compositions. Value in the photography world really just translates to light. If you have a heavily lighted photography it is high on the value scale. If you have a low lighted photograph then it is low on the value scale.

Great Black and White Photographers

Ansel Adams Understood the dynamics of black and white photography along with other essential elements and principals of design of and photography. A part of this could be that he didn’t meddle with color as we often get distracted by color and loose the value of the composition. To truly understand composition shooting black and white photography is something you have to try as not just an “effect”, but as a teaching tool.

What Is Underwater Photography?

Underwater photography obviously is just what its name implies. Photographs taken underwater. It is safe to assume that underwater photography became a popular hobby because there is just so much beauty under the sea. When there is beauty there is happiness and happiness is always something you would want to share. Underwater photography became popular because scuba divers could see underwater they wanted to share with others.

Documentaries, Movies, National Geographic films all use underwater photography to teach, inspire and tell stories about life underwater.

Underwater Photography Techniques

On a more technical note underwater photography equipment can be both simple or complex, all depending on what kind of photography you would like to employ. Simple cameras range from the disposable ones which are ideal for vacations and amateurs. Disposable underwater cameras typically use film and can be developed at any developing center. You can expect great underwater images even from disposable cameras. But if you are an avid underwater photographer with advanced skills then you will probably not settle for disposable cameras. Some cameras are originally not made for underwater use, but some manufacturers develop add on casings specifically for their cameras so that they can be used for underwater photography and can withstand the pressure underwater.

Photoshop can also be used to remove hated ex-boyfriends, erase blemishes, and delete distracting objects from the background of the picture. While cleaning up a photo to make it look prettier is nice to be able to do, there are also disadvantages to altering photos.

Advantages to Retouching Photos

Who likes to look at photos with red eyes? Other than people who are interested in making monster movies, red eyes are usually undesirable in photos. Photoshop is a useful tool to get rid of red eyes.

Pictures sometimes turn out a little blurry. With Photoshop, you can sharpen the photo up a bit and make the photo a little less blurry. If the photo is too light, it is easy to darken it up. Similarly, it is easy to make dark photos lighter again. I have been able to make old pictures look new again by adding some color saturation to them. A friend of mine was able to make a photo of my baby that went through a house fire look like nothing had ever happened to it. A photo can be turned into black and white or sepia, or can have only one element colored in order to make a cool effect.

Photoshop is a useful tool to get rid of distracting backgrounds, branches that look like horns coming out of someone's head, boogers on a child's face, and ex-boyfriends. If we don't like what a picture looks like, we can change it to fit our desires. We can even change a picture to put us in a place that we have never been before.

Disadvantages to Retouching Photos

When we change our photos, it can leave us with a reality that doesn't exist. Children really do get boogers on their faces. One day they'll grow up and won't need to have their noses wiped any more. Teenagers might go through awkward stages, acne and all, and airbrushing their faces removes that reality. An ex-boyfriend might be a low-life loser, but if he was in your life, removing him from the picture removes the memories, however painful they may be at the moment.

Some of the most interesting elements of a picture are often the details that we don't pay attention to when we take the picture. My daughter had her ears pierced for a while a couple of years ago. The earrings ended up falling out, and I don't know how it happened, but the holes in her ears grew back almost immediately, and we weren't able to get the earrings back in again. While going through pictures of her, I saw the earrings and remembered the story. Cars and people in the background can remind you of trips that you took and people that you once were in contact with. Even ex-boyfriends can remind you of a relationship that you are thankful to be out of. If you erase all of these reminders, you might forget about them later.

Perhaps the best solution is to keep a copy of the original photo before you alter it. That way you can have the nice, cleaned up picture that you want, but you will still have a copy of all the details that will bring up memories years down the road.
